Mariah Carey was born and raised in Long Island, New York . Her parents are Patricia Hickey (Irish-American) and Alfred Roy Carey (African American/Venezuelan). For high school Mariah attended Greenlawn's Harborfields Highschool. In June of 1990 Mariah made her debut with Vision of Love which peaked at #73, but on August 4,1990 it reached #1. Mariah Carey is the only artist since the Beatles and Michael Jackson to have so many #1 singles and albums. She's the only female artist to have straight #1 singles and albums and was the highest selling recording artist of the 1990s. Her movie and album 'Glitter' was not a success and her label then bought out her massive contract. She will surely resign with another label and have continued success (as long as she reads those movie scripts beforehand!) Trivia: Has an 8 octave voice, 2 above normal soprano..
